Today I received a call from a client that locked herself out of the condominium building in Montgomery, OH 45242 area, after the key broke in the cylinder lock. I came there after 30 minutes and saw a commercial lever lock with a broken peace in it. I asked my customer if he kept the other broken peace and tried very gently to put it back to the cylinder in order to connect with the other broken peace so I can open the door first and let her in. It didn’t work and I went back to my truck to take the tools I need for that job. I used W40 spray (oil) to make the pins smooth in the cylinder and I also used a key extractor tool so I can pull out the broken key. I took it out of the lock in 5 minutes and that was the first step. The door is still locked so I used my pick tools and brushed the pins to get it open. I showed my client the broken key and told her that key cuts are fade away with the time especially if you use the lock more then a hundred times a day.
Those are the key extractor tools I used in order to take the broken key out of the cylinder lock.

The customer asked me if I can make her a new key like the one she had before. I was taking the cylinder lock to my truck to open it and match her a new key. I saw the top pins which means that its a master key system and different keys should match to this specific cylinder. Since i didn’t want to change it to a different key, I asked her if all the residents in the building use the same key and if she can contact the manager to bring me the master key so I can match for the same one they had before. The manager was in Montgomery, OH area as well and came right away with the master key. I was rekeying the lock so the new keys will use my customer to get in to the building and the manager can keep the same master key he gave me. My customer was happy with my locksmith work performance and for the fast response. From start to finish, the job was completed in 35 minutes.
